Connect India Conference 2024
(26-29 February 2024)

The first edition of the Chamber’s Connect India Conference in the three cities in Australia – Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney received overwhelming response from the business community. The week-long event from 26 to 29 February 2024 was addressed by some of the eminent personalities from the corporate and government sector. The Indian Consulate Generals in Melbourne and Sydney and the American College were the co-hosts for the event.

At the Conference in Melbourne, the Hon. Mr. Lee Tarlamis MP, Government Whip in the Legislative Council, Government of Victoria, said "There are so many more untapped and unexplored opportunities to do more and I remain committed to assisting in any way that I can to identify and develop opportunities that will bring India and Victoria even closer – building on our strong and valued bonds.

According to Dr. Sushil Kumar, Indian Consul General in Victoria, choosing the State of Victoria has great advantages in terms of its strong India connection with the highest number of Indian diasporas, presence of the large number of Indian IT companies, highest number of Indian students in Australian Universities and so on.

Dr. S. Janakiraman, Indian Consul General in Sydney says “Almost 20 high level delegations have taken place in the bilateral space in the last one year alone and that shows the growing interest in the bilateral space”.

Christmas Networking Meet
(13 December 2023)

It was another great day in the Chamber's history with around 100 delegates participated in the Chamber's Christmas Networking Meet in Sydney on 13th December at the City Campus of the University of Wollongong.

The event, marked by the presence of distinguished speakers including H.E. Mr. Manpreet Vohra, Indian High Commissioner in Canberra; Professor Dr. Patricia Davidson, Vice-Chancellor of University of Wollongong; Mr. Edan Corkill, Director – Priority Markets, Investment NSW and Ms. Anne Nalder, Founder & CEO of Small Business Association of Australia, shed light on the thriving relations between India and Australia. The discussions reaffirmed the new heights reached in trade, technology, and economic ties, particularly in New South Wales.

Stability and collaboration in sectors such as mining, technology, education, digital health, fintech, and food and beverages took center stage, influenced by the leadership of both nations. The speakers brought attention to traditionally untapped opportunities in Asia for Australia, with a focus on enriching collaborations and partnerships.

Started with the opening remarks from Mr. Leon Skaliotis (Chairman, F&B Committee) and concluded by Mr. Pankaj Khandelwal (Board Member), the event was moderated by Mr. Ben Vella (Committee Member). Mr. Shekar Mani (Committee Member) acknowledged the great contributions of the High Commissioner in the Indo-Australian relations and his wonderful support to the Chamber and its activities.

While the University of Wollongong hosted the event, the Parramatta Chamber of Commerce and Small Business Association of Australia extended their support as event partners. The Ocean Finserv and The Colonial sponsored the event.

As part of promoting the charity initiatives, the Chamber also facilitated a table for the team from SRMD Australia for promoting organ donation.  The event had light Music Entertainment from Rosemont Strings and DeBortoli sponsored the wines for networking drinks.

ANZIBC EduSkill Conference 2023
(04 November 2023)

The Chamber’s ANZIBC EduSkill Conference 2023 at the Vijnana Bhavan in Mysore University on 04 November 2023 focused on the theme “Education, Skill Development and EdTech – The evolving new triangle of opportunities”.

Excelsoft and Mysore University came together as associate partners for the event and a team of highly successful educational institutions from Australia also participated in the Conference.

While inaugurating the Conference, Mr. Sanjeev Gupta, CEO, Karnataka Digital Economy Mission, highlighted the importance of fostering relations between India and Australia. He highlighted the mutual benefits that could arise from a strengthened relationship between the two nations.

He discussed the Beyond Bengaluru initiative and its potential to bolster the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Mysore. Through this initiative, he envisions creating a conducive environment for startups and established enterprises alike to flourish.

Mr. Sanjeev emphasized the close ties among academia, government, and industry as pivotal in bridging the gap between education and employment / entrepreneurship. He believes that a collaborative approach among these sectors is essential for nurturing a skilled workforce and promoting innovation.

To amplify the state's digital economy, he invited the dignitaries present at the event to join him in positioning Mysore as a thriving destination for businesses looking to expand their presence. Through collective efforts, he aims to attract more businesses to the region, thereby stimulating economic growth and creating job opportunities.

Prof. Dr. N.K. Lokanath, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore observed that no sector has been so profoundly transformed in our time as has been education and skill development.

Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep Sancheti Provost of Marwadi University and Chairman of the ANZIBC Education and Skill Development Committee, highlighted the provisions of NEP 2020 indicating that Skills is going to be flavour of the times and would be treated at par with any other courses. He also mentioned that internationalization of education and skilling is going to supported by schemes like credit transfers and Academic Bank of Credit.

Mr. Santhosh Karnananda, Director – Education South Asia, Australian Trade and Investment Commission observed that the relationship between India and Australia in the field of education is very conducive now as evident from two Australian Universities setting up their campuses in India and the spurt in the number of students from India heading to Australian for higher education.

Mr. Prashanth HM, Head of Strategy at Excelsoft in his concluding remarks highlighted how the city of Mysuru became an industry, innovation and knowledge hub with the involvement of some of the leading institutions like Excelsoft.

Mr. P. Santhosh, MD & CEO, ANZ India Business Chamber, in his welcome address said that while there is huge upsurge in the number of Indian students enrolling in the Australian universities, the Australian Vocational Education and Training Institutions play a significant role in the Skill India Mission and Training the Trainer programs.

The Chamber also presented the Business Leader of the Year Award 2023 for the Skill Development category to two of the Australia based entrepreneurs – FDr. Jeff Mazzini, Managing Director of AAMC Training Group and Mr. Suresh Padmanabhan, CEO of Reach for Training acknowledging their contributions, particularly in the Indo-Australian space.

The full-day Conference had two panel discussions and several presentations from some of the eminent speakers focusing on the trends and opportunities in the education and skill development sector.

An Australia Evening – Meeting with the Victorian Parliamentarians

It was another memorable day in the Chamber's history, when over 100 delegates gathered at The Accord Metropolitan Chennai to host the honourable Parliamentarians from the State of Victoria along with a delegation from the State.

Mr. Lee Tarlamis OAM MP, Government Whip in the Legislative Council; Ms. Belinda Wilson MP, Deputy Government Whip in the Legislative Assembly and Ms. Emma Vulin MP, Member for Pakenham addressed the members.

The cocktail dinner started with the opening remarks from Mr. P. Santhosh, MD & CEO of the Chamber. Mr. Ananth N, Chief Strategy Officer, eNoah presented the welcome address and Mr. Jithu Jose, Committee Member (Healthcare) of the Chamber presented the concluding remarks.

The evening saw beautiful melodies from the Madras Christian College. The eNoah iSolution joined as the lead sponsor and Apollo Hospitals extended its support as an Event Partner. The Chamber facilitated a visit for the team to the world class facility of Apollo Proton Cancer Centre in Chennai.

The honourable Members of the Parliament also presented the "Empowering Trade: Collaboration in Focus Award" to the ANZ India Business Chamber. A prestigious moment and indeed an acknowledgement of the Chamber's growing stature in the Indo Australian bilateral space and contributions.

ANZIBC Technology Conference Australia 2023

The ANZ India Business Chamber organised its Technology Mission to Australia from 21-23 August 2023, which visited the three Australian cities – Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney.

As part of the Mission, the Chamber organised its prestigious ANZIBC Technology Conference Australia 2023 at Melbourne on 21st August 2023, a visit to the Indian High Commission in Canberra on 23 August and a Business & Technology Conference in Sydney on 24 August 2023.

ANZIBC Technology Conference Australia 2023: The ANZIBC Technology Conference Australia 2023 at Melbourne on 21st August 2023 drew wide attention with the participation of some of the eminent global CEOs. The Consulate General of India in Melbourne joined hands with the Chamber to facilitate this event.

Mr. Girish Singh Kavia, Head of Chancery & Consul (Com. & Pol.), Indian Consulate General, Melbourne, presented the opening remarks and Mr. Archie Monteiro, Advisory Board Member of the Chamber, welcome the gathering.

The Chamber also launched its prestigious publication “Technology & Business Unlimited – The Future of Australia India Business” on the occasion.

The Indian High Commission in Canberra is doing phenomenal role in bringing India and Australia together and for promoting the bilateral trade. Our every visit to the High Commission is very productive and gives us more energy and encouragement to increase our engagement in the bilateral space.

We are particularly happy to witness the best moments and milestones in this relationship with the stellar leadership of H.E. Shri Manpreet Vohra and his team including Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Second Secretary (Economic & Commercial).

ANZIBC Networking & Business Introduction

At its Business Networking Meet in Chennai on 20th July, the ANZ India Business Chamber brought together two amazing Indo-Australian success stories in business - AccSource and EMT Group, one of the best 20 modern universities in the world - University of Wollongong, which is now setting up its offshore campus in the GIFT City in India; Grant Thornton Bharat LLP - one of the preeminent Indian professional services firms and offers end-to-end solutions for a business lifecycle, and Investment NSW - the NSW Government’s economic development and attraction agency, with a mandate to reinforce NSW as the most desirable place in the world to visit, study, invest and do business.

The event was attended by 71 delegates, mostly from the top management representing a variety of industry sectors with a keen interest in doing business with Australia, 8 Australian companies looking for expansion in India, 2 representatives from the Government of Tamilnadu and a few delegates from the education sector.

Indian Education and Skill Development Mission to Australia
(May 15-20, 2023)

With the pandemic receding, international flights resuming and a trade agreement between India and Australia signed and ready to be activated, the ANZ India Business Chamber became the first Australia focused bilateral trade organization from India to lead a business mission to Australia. The visit covered four cities – Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and Paramatta -and interacted with over 300 companies in the four cities.

The Mission had an amazing start with a Networking Session hosted by Hall Chadwick Melbourne in association with the Chamber’s Melbourne Chapter.  At Canberra, the members of the Mission had a very productive discussion with the Deputy High Commissioner, Shri Suneet Mehta and his team including Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Second Secretary. REACH for Training also organized a briefing session for the Members in Canberra.

At Sydney, the University of Wollongong hosted the Networking event is association with the Chamber’s Sydney Chapter. Another networking session was hosted by the Small Business Association of Australia.

The city of Paramatta is a fast developing second largest city in New South Wales and the Parramatta Chamber of Commerce organized another productive meeting in association with the City of Parramatta. It was wonderful experience to have a visit to the Paramatta Square.

The ANZ India Business Chamber launched the ANZIBC Business Directory 2023 while an Australian Business Delegation was in Chennai on 20th January 2023. The first copy was handed over to Mr. Simon Canov, Managing Director of Security One-to-One Services Group based in Sydney.

The Chamber represntatives also met the Additional Chief Secretary to Government of Tamil Nadu and the Commissioner of Greater Chennai Corporation, Dr. J. Radhakrishnan IAS to discuss on the opportunities in Skill Training and Healthcare (September 2023).

ANZ India Business Chamber Delegation visits Singapore
(September 26-29, 2022)

The ANZ India Business Chamber organized an Indian Business Delegation to Singapore from September 26-29, 2022. The Chamber also launched its Chapter in Singapore in the presence of a large gathering of business community, where Mr. Raj Joshua Thomas NMP, Parliament of
Singapore, addressed the members of the delegation and the business community. The session also had some of the eminent corporate leaders addressed from Toll Group, Citibank, Cyril Amarchand Managaldas, AJP Advisors Group, etc.

The delegation interacted with the premier industry bodies, Singapore Business Federation(SBF) and Singapore India Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SICCI) and discussed the possibilities in Chamber-to-Chamber collaborations in helping the business community to establish and expand their footprints in the bilateral space.

The delegation was led by Mr. P. Santhosh, MD & CEO of ANZ India Business Chamber. On the developments, Mr. Santhosh observed that Singapore is an important partner for India in terms of both trade and investment and the recent initiatives of the Indian Government with reforms and liberalization of the policies are encouraging more Singapore based organisations to look at India for expansion. We could also see an increasing role for Singapore as a connecting country in the Indo-Pacific region particularly for those Indian companies looking at opportunities in the ANZ region and vice versa, he added.

The ANZ India Business Chamber brought together its members and some of the success stories in the Indo-Australian space at another Networking Event at Sydney on 20th September.

The event had scintillating presentations and speeches on the theme “Unfolding Success Stories and Partnerships in the Indo-Australian Business Space.

Mr. Sanjay Muluka, Deputy Consul General of India in Sydney was the Chief Guest and presented the Keynote Address.

Started with the Opening Remarks from Mr. Paul O’Brien, Group CEO of AirPhysio Pty Ltd and a Special Address from Prof. Dr. Patricia M. Davidson, Vice Chancellor & President, University of Wollongong, the following eminent speakers addressed the events:

Christmas Networking Meet & Launch of the NSW Chapter at Sydney

The Chennai based international Chamber, ANZ India Business Chamber, launched its New South Wales Chapter at Sydney today. The launch assumes significance in the background of the Indo-Australian Trade Agreement, which is now under advanced discussion.

This physical event was held with the participation of the high dignitaries, The Hon. Dr. Geoff Lee, Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education, NSW Government, Australia; Shri Sanjay Muluka, Acting Consul General, Indian Consulate General, Sydney and Prof. Patricia M. Davidson, Vice-Chancellor and President, University of Wollongong, Australia.

While addressing the business community, The Hon Dr. Geoff Lee observed that India and Australia have a lot of similarities with a relationship that spans since the 1st World War. We fought together and now we are doing business together as friends. India is currently Australia's 7th largest trading partner which we wish to encourage to continue to grow. At the moment there are 35000 Indian students studying in Australia creating some of Australia's best citizens for the future.

Shri Sanjay Muluka said that India and Australia are building relationships and putting together a free trade agreement which looks like it will be one of the fastest free trade agreements ever. It will cover almost 90% of the tax lines and will be a big boost to our commercial partnership. It signifies an extremely positive relationship between our two countries

Prof Patricia Davidson said that The University of Wollongong has a large population of Indian students focusing on finance, management and the health sciences. It has continued to maintain relationships with India during this covid period. The importance of the chamber is Paramount as it allows these Indian students to find role models as they are introduced into The Australian culture and society. The University of Wollongong is a global institution committed to a diverse educational system and welcomes all Indian students into its heart.

According to Mr. P. Santhosh, MD & CEO of ANZ India Business Chamber, “This is major milestone in the Chamber’s history and this will help us to facilitate more and more trade and investment opportunities in the Indo-Australian space, particularly at a time when there is a major shift in focus for Australian companies to look at business opportunities in India rather than investing in China”.

In his welcome address, Mr. Matthew McMillan, ANZIBC Board Member for NSW and Partner, McCullough Robertson Lawyers said that Indo-Australian trade is now redefining with technology as its growth engine. The 700,000 Indians in Australia contributing to the economy and at the same time creating more opportunities in connecting their country of adoption with their country of origin.

Mr. Leon Skaliotis, ANZIBC Board Member for NSW and General Manager of Flavourtech Pty Ltd., observed that this event should be seen not just as a milestone in the spectacular journey of ANZ India Business Chamber, but   this special day also take Indo-Australian relations a few steps forward.

Members’ Meet & Business introduction
(October 21, 2021)

Leading members of the business community from India, Australia and Singapore had a rich and lively virtual get-together while the ANZ India Business Chamber organized its prestigious Members’ Meet and Business introduction on October 21, 2021.

While addressing the business community, His Excellency Mr. Manpreet Vohra, the Indian High Commissioner in Australia, observed that with the changing global scenarios Australia has come to look at India as an important partner in promoting regional security and stability and much more recently also for the diversification of its economy and its trade partners. This has led to the upgradation of our bilateral relations to a strategic partnership in 2009 and further upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) last year.

India and Australia have no now resumed negotiations on the long delayed Free Trade Agreement and expect to conclude an early Harvest deal by December this year. At 17th India-Australia Joint Ministerial Commission both the countries reaffirmed their commitment to conclude a CECA, including to reach an interim agreement by December 2021 to liberalise and deepen bilateral trade in goods and services, and to conclude the negotiations on a full CECA by the end of 2022.

India and Australia ties has witnessed unprecedented growth in the last few years. We have progressed immensely across diverse areas including defence, critical minerals, circular economy, agriculture, water management, grains management, clean energy, research and development, innovation, education & skill development and supply chain resilience, he added.

He also urged the Australian companies to be an integral part of India’s growth story and make India as their manufacturing and logistics hub for other international market.

The High Commissioner also applauded the Chamber’s role in facilitating the entry of the Tamil Nadu’s well-known dairy brand “Aavin” to the Australia and New Zealand market and for helping the Indian EdTech company, ExcelSoft Technologies, in exploring the Australian market.

Dr. Abhay Sinha, Director General of Services Export Promotion Council, observed that services sector will play an important role in the Indo-Australian CECA, particularly the education and IT services industry.

In his Welcome Address, Mr. Prashanth Sabesan, Chairman of the Chamber’s Professional Services Committee (Partner at AZB & Partners) observed that in the past couple of months,  several ministerial meetings have taken place in the Indo-Australian space to deepen the trade and investment ties in the bilateral relationship.

Representatives from 45 companies introduced their products and services to a larger audience from India, Australia and Singapore.

The event had wide ranging presentations including:

Ms. Priya Mishra, CEO of Corporality Global, Australia (Member, ANZIBC Professional Services Committee) moderated the event and Mr. Boobalan Madhavan, Managing Director, AccSource, Australia (Member, ANZIBC Professional Services Committee) presented the concluding remarks.

As a great recognition for the Chamber’s efforts in promoting the Indo-Australian trade, the Institutes of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) invited Mr. P. Santhosh, Managing Director of the Chamber as a panelist for a Session on “Exploring Opportunities in Australia” at their prestigious ICAI Global Week held from 27th September 2020 to 1st October 2020. The Hon. Mr. Ted Baillieu (former Premier of Victoria), H.E. It was a major milestone in the Indo-Australian relations and for the ANZ India Business Chamber, when the Chamber organized its first high profile event on the theme “Indo-Australian Business Opportunities in Trade, Technology, Education and Services” in Melbourne on February 12, 2020 with top officials from Victorian Government, Indian Government, State Bank of India and other leading corporate groups in the Indo-Australian space as distinguished speakers at the event.

The high profile Hall Chadwick Melbourne Chartered Accountants and Piper Alderman Lawyers hosted the event. The Chamber also released its prestigious publication, “Handbook on Indo-Australian Business 2019” on this occasion.

The ANZ Business Chamber organized another productive Networking Seminar on "Australian Opportunities in Business, Migration and Franchising" on November 11, 2019 at Hotel GRT Grand, Chennai.

The event saw five distinguished speakers from Sydney and an equal number of eminent speakers from India. Apart from the wide ranging discussions, two important developments were announced at the event:

1. Health Careers International signed anMoU with Orion EduTech, Kolkata for conducting HCI’s healthcare courses in India, which was facilitated by ANZ Business Chamber.

2. A group company of Valet Migration announced their plans to invest 2 million dollars in Chennai for a major leather processing unit in Tamil Nadu with the guidance of ANZ Business Chamber.

The Chamber also released its prestigious publication “Handbook on Indo-Australian Business 2019” on the occasion.

The ANZ India Business Chamber (ANZIBC) participated in the high profile Australian International Furniture Fair (AIFF) and the co-located Décor+Design Exhibition with a Business Delegation from India. AIFF was held at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre from July 18-21, 2019.

AIFF attracted wide participation from India with an Indian Pavilion sponsored by the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH). The Indian Consul General in Melbourne, Mr. Raj Kumar, inaugurated the India Pavilion at the Exhibition.

As part of the Delegation, ANZIBC organized a Networking evening at the State Bank of India office in Melbourne. As part of the visit, Mr. P. Santhosh, CEO and Biju John, Advisory Board Member of ANZIBC, called on Mr. Raj Kumar, Consul General of India and Ms. AnuradhaSundaramurthy, Consul of India in Melbourne.

Mr. Santhosh and Mr. Biju John also met the Executive Team at Health Careers International Group at their Corporate Office in Melbourne and discussed ANZIBC’s involvement in expanding their operations in India. HCI Group is planning a major investment in India in the next couple of years.

“How Indian Companies can Build a Successful Business in Australia”

The ANZ India Business Chamber (ANZIBC) organized a star studded Seminar on “How Indian Companies can Build a Successful Business in Australia” on June 25, 2019 at Chennai.The event saw wide ranging presentations from widely respected personalities from both India and Australia followed by a Panel Discussion.

Mr. P. Santhosh, CEO of ANZIBC, in his Welcome Address, observed that Australia's culture of innovation and India's cost-effective, highly skilled human talents make a formidable synergy that will open up huge business opportunities in the Indo-Australian space and beyond.

Mr. Archie Monteiro, Managing Director of India Investments Pty Ltd, Melbourne Australia, in his presentation on “Building Successful Business in Australia”, said that Australian agriculture is in an exciting time, which has seen some active transactions with a number of overseas acquisitions of Australian landholdings and farmlands. Food will become a major source of international trade wars as Climate Change and Food Security become an issue, he added.

Mr. M. Vijayakumar IAS, Managing Director of Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu Limited, in his presentation said that the State of Tamil Nadu ranks 3rd in Software Exports and accounts for 10% of the total IT exports from India. The State generated a revenue of $18.51 billion and attracted investments worth $6.15 billion in the IT/ITES sector in 2017-18, he added.

CA. Jomon K. George, Chairman SIRC of the Indian Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) in his presentation on “Accounting Services Industry & Australian Outsourcing Opportunities”, pointed out that several Indian SMEs are playing a significant role in the outsourcing industry right from preparing tax papers to auditing and stock analysis.

Mr. R. Vignesh, Director and Mr. M.S. Jayachandran, Sr. Vice President of Sri Kailash Logistics presented an overview on the company’s 1 millions sq. ft. of world class warehousing space in 35 acres of land at Oragadam in Chennai.

Mr. R. Madhusoodhanan, Board Member of ANZIBC, observed that Australia has now emerged as a laboratory of ideas, innovation and experiments, which can contribute greatly to the development of many Indo-Australian projects in the industry, education, social life and much else.

The Federal Bank Limited and Sri Kailash Logistics Limited extended their support as co-sponsors for the event.
